Field Improvement

In an effort to continuously improve the upstream industry’s oil spill response capability, WCSS is involved in small scale research and development projects. The research and development program is traditionally oriented toward the field testing of new equipment/technology and identifying improved containment and recovery techniques. Our approach to continuous improvement is as follows:

  • Conduct an annual needs assessment program through an R&D Committee and our Oilspill Cooperatives.
  • Record lessons learned from past spills and implement changes that will benefit our members.
  • Review literature from other jurisdictions.
  • Conduct field tests in conjunction with annual Cooperative exercises.
  • Interact with similar organizations and develop partnerships when appropriate.
  • Have delegates attend appropriate oil spill conferences and report back to our stakeholder.
